‘The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in times of great moral crisis, maintain their neutrality”- Dante Alighieri
–And the Ron Howard surely will go to the hottest place in hell for ruining yet another Dan Brown novel
Ron Howard does what Ron does best, ruin Dan Brown’s books! The book “Inferno” by Dan Brown was a good book, for those who love thrillers. Though a hackneyed plot, it does bring the thrill into the book. Even If the name “Robert Langdon were to be erased from the book, one could easily tell that it’s a Dan Brown book. But still it’s good book, with crazy twists and a suspense that keeps you wondering for a long time. Yet the intensity of the suspense in the book hasn’t be expressed equally in the movie. Though the movie does go according to the plots in the book, the story line in the movie is insipid compared to the book.
As usual,, Robert Langdon is caught in the middle of Symbols, symmetry arts, and unlike the possible annihilation of Angels and Demon, here Langdon faces a possible decimation of large number of Population. Bertrand Zobrist (Ben Foster), a Geneticist turned a psychopath has created a “Virus” named Inferno. Langdon wakes up in a hospital with a wound in his head, where Dr. Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones) is attending him. Langdon cannot remember how he ended up in hospital, at the mean time he is attacked on the hospital floor, and he is rescued by Dr Sienna.
From there onward, two of them follow the trails and footsteps of different symbol, texts and art. Then there’s chasing, shooting, guns and knives, bloods and sweats, and of course betrayal. But still no as thrilling as it was while reading. The main twist of the movie was almost jaw dropping in book but its almost as apparent in the movie. The movie will definitely be quite boring for someone who hasn’t read the book, yet it will be more boring for someone who has read the books. One who hasn’t read the book will find the story pretty dull and interesting. There’s no spice to it, nothing in the story build up that can entice you. The movie can’t even generate the thrill that one would get by reading the book.
I hope they make a good movie out of The Lost Symbol and Digital Fortress , I wish Ron Howard would not a chance to ruin those books too!
